Today our youngest turned one years old! I can hardly believe it. We celebrated him this evening with a vanilla spice cake, just the four of us. I made sure to take videos and a million pictures (duh) so we can send them to Dad. We sure miss him!
Three hundred and sixty-five days ago I gave birth to this precious baby boy. It was one of the most amazing and gratifying several hours of my life. It was more than I could have hoped for. As many of you know just hours after he took his first breath earth side he had an apnea event and started to turn blue while in my arms. I went from feeling such a high to completely devastated and shaken. He was immediately admitted into the NICU and numerous tests were administered. The next few days that followed were the hardest of my life. He wasn’t showing any signs of progress and the doctors were very concerned that there was a more serious issue than they first thought. I was terrified. Just over two weeks later The Lord had answered all our prayers, he was able to come home. We finally were all together, our family was complete.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
It took me a month or two but I finally felt a peace come over me, he was thriving. Those first few days were so rough but they definitely taught me to be mindful of how quickly things can change and to be grateful for good health.
He has grown into such a bright, warm hearted young boy. His father and I couldn’t be more blessed to have him as our third son. We are so excited to see more of his personality blossom.
All day J was saying “Happy Birthday Lennox, I eat your cake!” haha .
As soon as I came out with his cake he started to yell in excitement!
His first bite of sweets EVER!
He obviously hated it, ha! Actually quite the opposite. He was so excited he could hardly contain himself. And his older brothers waited patiently (well sort of) so they could join in with him. But who can blame them! At one point or another each of the boys had a hand in helping me prep, bake and decorate the cake. I was happy to have it be something they were interested in doing. I might have to make it a tradition.
His “I am stuffed” face and how he signs “all done.”
His cake certainly wasn’t the prettiest ever, but just looking at it melted my heart because it was made with love. J helped me mix and pour, K helped by picking out the greenery pieces to top the cake and they both helped frost it! Alexis Maddox Design made the wonderful calligraphy wood number “one” cake topper! It was perfect for my vision of his celebration.
Because my husband is deployed I didn’t feel right throwing him a large party. But with L being our last baby I couldn’t resist doing something special for him. My hopes were for it to be simple yet meaningful. I think we accomplished that! I made this greenery garland for five dollars and took me just under thirty minutes to create. I was pleased.
And of course we had to wash off the cake and icing! Nothing beats a tub bath outside on a perfectly warm summer evening! Happy Birthday baby boy! You are so incredibly loved.
